Punta Dominical

Earth Day 2007 Festival

Tina Wallace ASANAIt is my hope that with this newsletter, I can encourage many of you to help Asana celebrate the Path of the Tapir Biological Corridor on Sunday, April 22.

ASANA’s main objective, as quoted by founder Jack Ewing is “to connect all the fragments of forest between Terraba and Savegre Rivers, thus creating a natural corridor of protected lands which will have no interruptions and along which wildlife of all kinds can travel freely without the pressure of human depredation”. We have mentioned Jack and Hacienda Baru previously in our newsletters, and I know many of you have enjoyed his tours.

ASANA’s strategy is to work with the community, including developers such as Punta Dominical to achieve such goals. The Earth Day Festival allows Asana to educate locals in the southern zone about important issues such as renewable resources, beach and ocean conservation, river and spring water protection and reforestation.

ASANA’s goal this year is to raise funds to continue ASANA’s projects for 2007, especially its environmental education program with over 30 schools. In addition, ASANA needs to place additional MINAE (Ministry of Energy and the Enviornment which governs and enforces the environmental laws in effect in Costa Rica) guards on the roads and in the water at Parque Nacional Marina Ballena.

We are participating this year with Asana, and I hope you will too. Kindly send donations to:
