| Adventure in the Wild Osa!
You haven’t really experienced the Osa Peninsula until you drive through the Osa Peninsula. I actually arrived at midnight, so I missed a bit of the scenery but…
My friend and I decided rather spontaneously to jump in my truck at 8pm to go to Matapalo, a remote beach with some unbelievable waves in the heart of the Osa.
Considering how dark it was upon our arrival, I was in afforded a wonderful treat when I awoke. The views from Matapalo are breathtaking; I sat on a ridge watching the surf for a few hours while counting 25 Scarlet Macaws and 30 Howler monkeys lounging in the trees directly above me.
Unfortunately my surfing skills are not yet at a Matapalo level, although the locals (no tourists) had an absolutely grand time. The break has been my friend’s favorite for years, and he says it is one of the best in the region.
I didn’t mind being beached for the day and it gave me an opportunity to chat with some Osa tour groups who were in walking the area. There was only three to a tour, with one Tico guide and not a car to be seen. All were amazed at the show Mother Nature was providing and everyone had rave reviews.
There are just a few options for lodging, most being quaint, rustic and unobtrusive cabinas owned by friendly, eco-enthusiasts. We departed the following day. I am always excited to get back to my home at Canto del Mar in Dominical, but it sure was a wonderful two days.
